In simple terms, when you lift a weight the barbell has a speed based on how much power you generate to lift it, and a trajectory based on your position in relation to the barbell. Velocity and displacement analysis is a method of capturing both the speed and trajectory of the barbell in relation to the ‘perfect’ execution of a lift. Visually seeing the path of the barbell helps athletes understand the importance of body positioning and movement around the barbell to improve their performance.
If you are an experienced weightlifter looking to improve or gain an edge over your competitors, velocity and displacement analysis will allow you to see how you position the barbell and yourself in space when you execute your lifts. I use Kinovea software to analyse an athlete’s lifts and this allows me to give you specific coaching in relation to your weaknesses. For example, i will be able to see if you are allowing the barbell to move away from you during your snatch or not generating enough power with your legs during a clean and jerk to execute the movement efficiently.
I can definitely help you and have a keen theoretical interest in barbell velocity and displacement as well as being able to practically apply improvements to lifting technique following analysis. My MRes at the University of Wolverhampton focused on the physical components surrounding weightlifting performance and I analysed a substantial number of lifts and provided coaching for athletes to improve performance as part of my thesis.
In the first instance please send me a WhatsApp message or email and we can arrange a face-to-face session to record you lifts, followed up by a report and recommendations to improve.
